NVM4.0:
The power and versatility of the NVM4.0 brings the small to medium
business into the world of automated messaging. NVM4.0 address'
customers who require a comprehensive voice mail and auto attendant
product and who may need to expand their systems at a later date.
While most NVM consumers are sensitive to price, they also are looking
for a product which can grow and evolve as their business needs
dictate.
Capacity:
The Norstar Voice Mail 4.0 (NVM4.0) supports from 2-16 channels,
with 100 hours of message storage and an upper limit of 1000 mailboxes.
Auto Attendant:
The Auto Attendant works as a receptionist would when answering
incoming calls. Using a customer recorded custom prompt, it plays
a list of options to a caller. The caller may interrupt the recording
at any time by choosing an option and pressing the appropriate key
on the dialpad of any tone dial telephone.
Custom Call Routing (CCR):
CCR is a single-digit access application, providing callers with
one touch navigation through the NVM4.0. By recording menu greetings
and "Building" the "CCR Tree", the end-user
can fully customize their Auto Attendant applications. Follow this
link to learn How to build a CCR tree".
Dial By Name (DBN):
DBN is a "Cintech Tele-management Systems" software application
which is bundled with each Norstar Voice Mail and runs on the Norstar
Applications Module (NAM). With DBN, phone numbers are stored on
the NAM, in an electronic phonebook, which is accessible from every
phone on the Norstar system. A maximum of 10 different phonebooks
may be programmed into DBN. With a maximum capacity of 440 numbers
per phonebook.
Voice Mail:
The Norstar Voice Mail applications software provides voice messaging,
telephone answering, custom call routing and CMS/CLASS compatibility.
Subscriber Mailboxes:
are assigned by your "System Coordinator" and maintained
by the end-user. Each subscriber must have a working Norstar set.
Subscriber mailboxes store messages for users who are unavailable
to answer their set. Then the NVM will set "Message for you"
on the users extension when a message is delivered.
Guest Mailbox:
provides temporary employees and mobile workers with access to internal
messaging and call routing features.
Info Mbox:
provides an information message to a caller. Applications for Info
mailboxes include: Directions, Job openings, etc.
Group Lists:
This feature allows the "System Coordinator" to create
a list of mailboxes which will receive messages. This allows management
to "Broadcast" messages to large groups of subscribers
or guests.
Caller ID routing:
With "Calling Line ID", the NVM4.0 offers the ability
to route up to 100 numbers based on the CLID. Each mailbox offers
up to three personalized greetings for CLID. The message is left
with the CLID information, allowing the user to reply directly from
within their mail box.
Networking options:
The Norstar Voice Mail offers 2 networking options. The "Industry
Standard" AMIS and Nortel's proprietary VPIM.
AMIS:
Audio Messaging Interchange Specification (AMIS) is the Telecommunications
Industry standard for networking remote Voice Mail systems. Most
voice mail manufacturers supports AMIS. This protocol allows all
voice mail systems, irregardless of brand, to communicate as if
on the same voice mail system. Users may compose messages and send
them to remote voice mail systems. When the recipient listens to
the message, they may "Reply", Forward", etc., as
if using the same system.
VPIM:
Voice Profile for Internet Mail (VPIM) Digital Networking option
provides a link between Norstar Voice Mail, Meridian Mail and other
voice mail systems on the TCP/IP Wide-Area Network (WAN). VPIM Digital
Networking uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to exchange
messages. With the optional FAX package, users can send and receive
fax messages across their LAN/WAN. The functionality of VPIM is
closely related to AMIS. However, the VPIM networking communications
are transported across a TCP/IP network. As opposed to the dialup
analog connection used by AMIS. This allows for networking systems
across all types of WAN's regardless of the type of connection.
Fax:
The Norstar Voice Mail FAX option offers a caller the capability
to send a Fax message to a mailbox as easily as sending a voice
message. FAX can be used from any Norstar or touch-tone phone connected
to your Norstar-PLUS.
Fax Mail:
A Fax message may or may not contain a voice annotation to introduce
the document to the mailbox owner. The Fax message can then be retrieved
and printed to an internal or external fax machine. The average
fax message (text only) uses about 10 seconds of mailbox storage
time per page. After printing or forwarding, the fax should be deleted
in order to reclaim system storage capacity.
Fax-on-Demand (FOD):
This feature allows the caller to retrieve fax documents stored
in a Fax-on-demand (FOD) mailbox. The "System Coordinator"
has two options when configuring FOD.
Option one:
is the one call method, which requires the caller to initiate the
call from their fax machine. This method requires the caller to
pay for the call.
Option two:
is the two call method, requiring the caller to enter a fax machine
number where the requested document(s) should be transmitted. This
method requires the transmitter to pay for the call.
Fax Broadcast:
A Fax System Group List is a collection of fax machine numbers from
other locations. Each fax machine receives the same fax message.
It is a good idea to publish a fax machine group list document to
your staff. This allows your staff to know where Fax Broadcast Messages
can be delivered.
Fax Overflow:
A Fax Overflow mailbox is a mailbox for your fax machine.
If the fax machine cannot answer an incoming fax call, Norstar Voice
Mail answers the call and temporarily stores the Fax messages in
the Fax Overflow mailbox.
Later, when the fax machine is ready to print, Norstar Voice Mail
will send the stored Fax messages to the fax machine. If Norstar
Voice Mail cannot send the Fax messages on the first attempt, it
will attempt to send the documents several more times.
The number of times Norstar Voice Mail will attempt to send the
Fax message is called the retry attempts. The number of retry attempts
can be any number between one and 99.
Between each of these retries, Norstar Voice Mail will wait a specified
amount of time called the retry interval. The retry interval can
be from one to 60 minutes.
A Fax Overflow mailbox may be assigned to any Norstar port to which
a fax machine is connected. In order to use a Fax Overflow Mailbox,
the Fax machine Must be an extension on the Norstar system.
Fax Answering:
Fax Answering allows a caller to use the autosend feature on their
fax machine to send faxes to the Norstar Voice Mail system. The
Norstar Voice Mail Automated Attendant recognizes the fax tone and
automatically sends the Fax message to a predefined fax machine
for printing. The fax machine extension can be set up with a Fax
Overflow Mailbox for improved performance. However, if the fax machine
extension is not equipped with a Fax Overflow Mailbox and the fax
machine extension rings busy or does not answer the incoming call,
the fax call will be terminated.
